Where Are They Now? — Julie Jenkins (Hinton)

For some reason, since graduating high school, my name has not been listed as a graduating student from PHS 1988. Which would explain why I have not attended any reunions since then, but I've since been located and hopefully most of you remember me. Most of your faces are familiar but since that time of my life was kind of traumatic, I've since lost a lot of details of that time. Due to my parent’s divorce, I became a “transplant” from Sanpete County back in 1986 and entered Provo High as a Junior in the ’86-’87 school year. I came from a small town school of 500 to a big city school of 1200+ students. My life in Mt. Pleasant was quiet and sheltered and Provo High was a huge culture shock for me. Shortly upon my arrival to Provo, I was befriended by Kim Kaaihue. She was a huge help to me and a great friend. She acquainted me with a lot of things and was a lot of fun to be around. She also got me into some trouble too, but we won't go there. I took my new life changes the best way I could at that time: dating, dancing at the Star Palace, making out and sluffing. I know, not the greatest, but I know I wasn’t the only one. Haha!

I also became friends with Julie Lund and Shanna Williams (and Jody Lamb), which I'm still friends with to this day. Along with Milan DeMonja and Shanna's sister, Kim (Milan's wife). It’s good to have such good friends. And it’s good to know I made it through my trials and graduated in the end.

After graduation, and my mom’s 2nd divorce, she moved us to Orange County, California. Where I moved out on my own, bought a car and got a job as a secretary. I later, became an accounts receivables clerk and an office manager for other companies. I lived a fun life in So. Cal. going to the beach, dating, going to concerts, traveling the California coast, hanging with friends and roommates, etc... In May 1991, I met my soon to-be husband, Kerry. We met in the Irvine Singles Ward and dated for almost 2 years before we got married in the St. George Temple in March of 1993. Later that year, his job transferred us from So. California to St. George, Utah where we now reside. Upon moving to St. George, I was employed as a secretary for a local tax accountant for almost 2 1/2 years. I quit after the birth of our first child. Kerry and I have been married for 15 years now and have 3 wonderful kids: Kaylee (12), Kason (9) and Jaynee (5).

Before and after the birth and of our first daughter, I traveled with my husband on several business trips where I've had the opportunity to see several places in the U.S.: Seattle, WA, Dallas, TX, Boston, MA, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, Philadelphia, PA, Washington, DC, Raleigh, NC and New Orleans. I can't seem to get him to take me out of the country...maybe some day though!

My pastimes include: Cooking and baking. Last year, I taught cooking classes every month in my ward and just recently catered my first wedding. Photography and blogging have become my new creative outlets. And I can’t say that running is a pastime for me, but I caught the “bug” back in October and have completed 3 10K races in the last 4 months and have enjoyed the “energy” behind those races.

I currently have a part-time job at night cleaning the St. George Temple. And yes, it's a paying job. So I can officially say this stay-at-home Mom has gone back to work. I love it! I tell everyone that it's "the best job in the world". The hours are from 10pm to 2am so it allows me to still be at home with kids during the day. What more could you ask for?

My biggest accomplishment is my 3 kids. They're wonderful and I feel very blessed. One huge regret I do have is turning Chad Paskett down when he asked me to go with him to the Junior Prom. I really, really wanted to go. Financial reasons kept me from going. Sorry Chad! I'm haunted by it to this day whenever I hear the words "Junior Prom". I wished I would have worked it out. This is one girl who never got to wear a pretty dress. So there, how's that for some details that most of you didn't know...

I’m looking forward to attending my first PHS class reunion and seeing many of you again.

Hi Julie! I remember when you moved in and I thought you were a riot! We had a few classes together and you always had the appearance of being secure and happy. You always made me laugh! I am so glad that you're going to be at the reunion and I'm glad you got your blog on. I kept seeing comments from you on other people's blogs but didn't know how to say hi. See you soon!

I love hearing from a High School Hottie. How come we never went out? Yes- I was scared to go to your house- Your Tongan family was very large and protective. I sure hope you can make it on Friday- see you soon.

I will agree with Jayson, we acted more polite a the 'Tongan house' than our own homes. It is great to see that things have gone well for you. I hope to see you at the dinner.
