Reunion This Weekend!

June 26, 2008

So here it is—we made it—you can now rest easy knowing that you won't receive another email from me for another decade. (And by that time, we'll be almost 50 and you won't even remember that I used to send you annoying emails—hopefully!)

For those attending the Reunion Dinner on Friday, June 27th (you know who you are), here's a schedule for the evening:

5:30 to 7:00 Social Hour (and a half)—appetizers will be served!
7:00 p.m. Short Welcome and other "stuff"
7:20 p.m. Dinner
8:00 ish? Program (Do not miss this—I can't say much for fear of giving away the surprises, but you will not want to miss this!)
8:30 (or whenever the program finishes)—the night is yours for more socializing!
Until 11:00 p.m. when we have to be out of the room.

NOTE: We will be collecting donations for the Class Gift at the dinner and at the picnic. We are only serving water and lemonade with dinner, but the Class Gift committee will have Diet Coke, Mt. Dew, Dr. Pepper, chocolate milk on sale for $1—all proceeds being donated to Provo High. (This is our version of a cash bar.)

For those Golfing on Saturday, June 28th (I think you may know who you are), please arrive by 7:15 a.m. (at East Bay Golf Course 1860 South 380 East, Provo, UT). In order to golf YOU MUST PREPAY!! Follow this link if you'd like to spend your morning trying to get a little ball into a little hole that is very far away!

For those attending the Family Picnic on Saturday, June 28th (you may or may not know who you are—so everybody should come), meet at Pioneer Park in Provo (500 W Center Street, Provo) from 1-3 p.m.. This is simple: grab your family, head through the nearest drive-thru in town and show up for an afternoon of fun! The Picnic committee has done a wonderful job; there will be a big blow up slide for us all to enjoy and snow cones for sale ($1/cone). (You may also want to bring lawn chairs.) This event is completely free and there are many, many classmates who can't make it to the dinner on Friday but will be at the picnic, so everyone please come!

And finally, if you're still alive after all that fun, take a quick ride over to the hallowed Halls of Provo High for a short tour (starting at 3:30 p.m.—meet at the NE corner of the building). This tour is not really a tour, but more of a self-paced wander. It can take you as little as 5 minutes, or as long the whole evening. WARNING: If you choose to stay in the school past 5:00 pm., you will need to purchase a ticket to the Class of 1998's 10-year reunion—it is being held there that night. (I'm not saying that's a bad idea—their party may be a lot more fun than ours.)

But wait! There's more! For those of you who can't join us: (1) We're working on a web camera. You'll be able to watch the reunion from home, and hopefully some classmates will come by to say hello—watch the website for more info about this opportunity. (2) After the reunion we will be posting pictures on the website. The fun will continue online even after the reunion, so keep checking back. (But please allow for a slower response—we may be a little tired after this weekend!)

I know that I have a tendency to quickly lapse into overt sentimentality—but for old times sake, I'll do it again! Andy and I daily get thanks from all of you for this reunion. And your thanks are so appreciated. But 25 other classmates have given countless hours to making this reunion fun (please look up their names on the reunion committee link so you can thank them as well.) More than that, over a hundred of you have posted on our website. And, hundreds of others have left kind, uplifting comments on your posts. Something wonderful has happened in this web-based pre-reunion. I hope that we can take this kindness and turn it into an equally wonderful weekend together!

We all worry that no one will remember us and we will all feel nervous when we once again see our old high school crush. So take a deep breath, I promise these feelings will pass quickly. Remember that everyone else is feeling that way too (and that there will be nametags!). The success of this reunion is now on your shoulders. So look around and reach out to others—may the most common words spoken this weekend be, "Come join us!"

I'll see you all soon (if I can make it—the new Pixar movie comes out that day, and Jim and Traci Blair said they would take me. If we're not there by 7:00pm—could someone else get things started?)

$1.00 Cash Bar? What about the Gin, Vodka, and Rum drinks? You've got to be kidding if soda and chocolate milk are considered the bar. Although I shouldn't be surprised, God Forbid any alcohol be allowed in Utah County! Wow! Nothing has changed in 20 years in Provo.

Dude (Chad),

She did say there would be Mt. Dew. I mean, there's tons of caffeine in that. Stuff could keep you up WAY past bed time at 9:30.
