Class Gift

Class of ’88! Have you been reminiscing, as I have, about the hallowed halls of PHS? Have you wondered if the graffiti you scratched in the second stall in the upper C-Wing bathroom still boldly proclaims your crush on (fill in the blank here, because I’m not admitting who I had a crush on!)? Would the site of your most embarrassing high school moment still cause you to blush as you walked by? Would attending a basketball game against Timpview still get you "R-O-W-D-I-E!"?

I sure hope so.

Being older, a bit more mature (though maturity in my view is highly overrated), and with a few more dollars in our pocket than we had there at 17½, we have decided it would be a great thing to be able to give back to the school that gave us so much. With that in mind, we contacted PHS and discovered they have an ongoing project worthy of our financial assistance. So I am writing to solicit funds for a rejuvenation of “the Quad,” the outside area between A and B-Wings, near the new library that was added on to the school after we left.

The Quad has been an asphalt, weed-riddled, somewhat uninviting space that got little use. If you can remember back that far, the “end of year” dance our junior year was held in the Quad; Mr. Danner’s band played. The Quad is currently undergoing a three-phase renovation. Phase one, a raised basketball platform, was completed last year. Phase two will include the addition of a stage and amphitheater surrounded by stamped concrete, as well as landscaping that will green up the space. I saw the plans (which will be available for view at the reunion) and it all looks fantastic. What was once relatively unusable and uninviting space will be functional and lovely. Even now, in its incomplete state, the basketball court is getting lots of use. They hope to have the second phase completed this summer.

So I send out a plea with various options.

  1. You can give a monetary contribution.

  2. You could donate time to work on the project.

  3. If you are in the concrete or landscaping business you could donate goods.

Any little bit will help. I am not even going to tell you how much to send. If you are coming to the reunion, bring your checkbook (or even cash) and we will be collecting donations there. Three other classes are reuniting this year and will be helping fund the same project, so we don’t have to do it all. We will get a great plaque on the wall, however, for what we can do.

If you want to give a monetary donation, there are three options:

1. Pay online:

2. Pay by mail:

  • Make your check to Provo Education Foundation, note on your check that it is for “PHS Quad Redesign,” and mail it to us at: 2284 N. 390 E. Provo, UT 84604.

3. Pay at the reunion:

  • You can make a donation by cash, check, or credit card at the reunion dinner on Friday night.

We hope you can find it in your hearts (and your pocketbooks) to generously help make our alma mater a better place to be. Many thanks!
