Where Are They Now? — Tim Strong

Digging through some old boxes a couple months ago, my mom uncovered evidence of my most distinguished PHS accolade: September 1987 "Heap of the Month" recipient. (See The Provonian, Sept. 18, 1987.) Despite the old orange Datsun pickup (complete with mismatched driver's side door secured from who knows which salvage yard -- courtesy of a friendly meeting with Candice Cuell's car in the north parking lot), I somehow persuaded my Debate partner, Martha Powley (PHS '89), to be seen with me in public. It must have been the fact that I broke out my parents' maroon station wagon for our first date. Nearly twenty-one years later, we're happily married with seven children.
In the meantime, I served an LDS mission to Sweden from 1989-1991; married Martha two months after getting home (she actually told me, in our second week of marriage, that she married me because of my car); graduated from BYU as an Economics major in 1993; graduated from Harvard Law School in 1996; worked at a law firm in Pittsburgh from 1996-2001; and moved to Phoenix in 2001, where I am now a partner in the D.C.-based firm Steptoe & Johnson.
Here in the Valley of the Sun, I occasionally see Ken Nelson and Kyle Dalley, both of whom still seem to have plenty of tread left on the old tires. On a more sobering note, I attended the funeral in Tucson of one of my best PHS friends, Slade Spencer, who I know we all miss.
Here is a couple-year-old picture of my children. (I'll try to post a more recent picture of the whole family soon.)

I ended up with your truck in my stable. It sits beside my Lambo, Bentley, and Aston Martin. It's probably my favorite of the group but it leaks a little too much oil to drive it very far ...
I loved the picture of the family!
I ran into your parents at Disneyland some years ago. They had Steve's kids with them.
I have such fond memories of you and your family. It is great to hear that you are doing well.
