Where Are They Now? — Mark Whiting

It should come as no surprise to those who remember me, that after high school I continued my pattern of doing things my own way. Luckily, it has worked out well.

I married my high school sweetheart, and fellow Bulldog Dawna Aaron shortly after she graduated. We jumped right into the life of parenthood and responsibilities. We have a daughter Justen (17) who is graduating high school herself this year. Our three boys Trenton, Jackson, and Tanner (ages 15, 12, and 11) keep us busy with their love of basketball. As a family we love camping and traveling. Dawna and I vacationed in Italy and loved it so much that we made it our goal to expose our kids to as many different places as we can afford. One of my trips put me in New York City on 9/11, and our original plans would have put us at the top of the Twin Towers that morning. That day endeared me to New York, and I took my family back there last year. When I have time for myself, I can usually be found hunting with Brandon Hill and Craig Anderson or riding my motorcycle, and through Dawna's influence I have even become quite fond of Broadway Theater. (How ironic is that?)

After leaving Provo High, I worked some odd jobs before settling into working with my family's company installing Questar gas pipelines. About twelve years later, we decided the time was right to take some chances. I started my own excavating business about six years ago and quickly became known as "The Best Excavator in the Western United States." (According to Dan Knight and Brandon Hill.) About a year ago, I was approached by Lone Peak Development to team up with them to develop subdivisions. Our decision turned out to be a positive one. It has enabled Dawna to continue to be a stay-at-home mom, and she returned to school a couple of years ago.

Originally, we made Payson our home, but about three years ago we moved to the Manilla/Pleasant Grove area. It proved to be a good move, and our kids love it here.

It has been so much fun reading everyone's posts, and we are looking forward to the reunion. See you all there!

Mark.... I still have your back! ( Like you need it ). That night at the carnival will be a fixed reminder of how tough we are! Your fam- looks great! It was nice to talk to you the other... month! Nice elk- or did you photo shop it like boner did with his? Ask Dawna about a swim party she had with Karen Stone and Hiedi Ludlow, where my nephew and I crashed it... I seem to remember a lot od screaming and splashing going on for some odd reason! See you in June. Rod

David,
I've always thought of you as my brother! The day your father-in-law and my mother-in-law got married my dream came true.

Hi Mark,
You have such a beautiful family. I miss running into Donna at the grocery store and school events, but it looks like north county is treating you well.
Brian told me about the fun vacations you have been going on... I'm jealous!
You were one of my best friends throughout Dixon and PHS. We sure had some fun times together! Remember when you took me to the top of the "Mandan" (sp?) ski lift at Sundance for the first time? I think I rode on my butt most of the way down but you were kind enough to stay right beside me.
You're such a great guy, I look forward to seeing you again.

Dude

Remember when we use to hang out at Sams's Club on Sunday's with our families? Those were the days.

I could always count on seeing you there.

Hope the earthwork is treating you well.

See you soon.

When you hit that elk in Spanish Fork Canyon, did it cause much body damage to your truck?

Mark,

Total surreal moment as I looked at you in your family picture with teenagers! Well, I'm just around the corner for sure. I've been half-way bragging about all the hooligan activities we got into with my boys and will shortly be denying them as they get into high school. Man, those were definitely great times. Well amigo, I'll look forward to seeing you at the reunion for sure. I'm also happy to read that you've caught the travel bug. We'll swap stories.
