Where Are They Now? — Lance Garvin

How 20 years can fly! It’s been great to see the posts from everyone, and especially the pictures!
After graduation I attended Snow College where Andy Horton and I were roommates. Following a year at Snow I served a mission to Guayaquil , Ecuador , then returned from Ecuador and attended BYU. I graduated from the Y in April of ‘95 with a BA in Economics. In the summer of ’94, just after swearing off anymore blind dates, Andy Horton and his wife, Stephanie, convinced me to go on one more. They set me up with a girl who they and Vicki Thompson worked with at NuSkin. Little did I know this date would change my life. Darcy Halliday (from Highland , Utah ) and I were married in February of ’95. Thirteen-plus years and five children down the road, we live in Cedar Hills , Utah , just near the mouth of American Fork Canyon . Although being from Utah , I had never heard of Cedar Hills until we started looking for a home here. We love the area and have enjoyed being here for the last 8 years.
Professionally, after graduating from BYU, I started my sales career working for Xerox Corporation, then Mity-Lite in Orem . About 7 years ago I then had a unique opportunity to become involved in two hedge funds. While there I saw the easiest way to become a millionaire in the stock market…start off as a billionaire! Actually it was an exciting place to be, and an experience of a life time! The stock market kept me pretty busy up until the fall of last year when I started working for a training and consulting firm here in Utah.
My family gets together with Andy’s family quite a bit and our two oldest children text message back and forth more than Andy and I ever talk! I am also fortunate enough to still keep in touch with Scott Miller, Jason Forest , Clark Bayles and Howard Snow, although it’s not nearly enough. I also recently heard from Mindy Hafen and Rod Johnson, and I ran into Bill Ackley not too long ago, and have talked with Dave Strunk a few times at the Cedar Hills Golf Course. I also see Mark Whiting and Dan Knight at the gym sometimes. I’ve got a great story about Dan Knight, by the way, even though it may not be as funny now as it was about a year ago—about the time I heard he was taking a couple of anger-management classes. Just jokin’, Dan! It’s actually a pretty funny story. Just don’t honk at him if you see him out running!
So 20 years after high school, the joy of my life is my family. I am extremely lucky to be married to such a great woman. She is a wonderful wife and mother and takes very good care of our family. I adore my children Sydni (12), Jake (9), Justin (8), Liv (5), and Ty aka “The Big Boss” (1). They keep us young, and it’s amazing how as a parent you take more pride in seeing your children’s experiences than you ever did with your own experiences at the same age.
I look forward to catching up with everyone at the reunion, and can’t wait to see you there!

You were the first kid I met when i moved to Utah. We each got our first kiss at the same party (different girls). We got our Eagle scout awards at the same time. We doubled on our first date (different girls). You were with me the first time I drove a car. You were there the first time I went skiing, first time golfing, my first college class, we started our first business together and so much more. Dude, why did you ditch me when you made your first mill??? J/k. Great family. I'm so happy for you. Let's do lunch and call some names--soon! "Marty Privot...over here! "
It looks like your kids got your wife's good looks too.
It was so good to hear from you. You guys look great!! It sure has been a long time since good ole' Nu Skin Darcy--seeing your picture made me really miss you.
Lance, as I was going through high school pictures to send in I found our homecoming dance--we look like babies. Thanks for taking me our Sophomore year.
I loved hearing what you all have been up to.
We need to exchange Christmas cards at the very lest. Take care, Vicki Thompson (O'Brien)
Mizzou football is going to be a blast this year.
It’s so regrettable that he’s the best friend a guy ever had…

You are the man and always have been. Glad to hear you are close by.
We killed a MTN lion right above your house this winter (you can pay me later).
Can't wait for reunion.

I remember sitting on the bench in little league baseball, but somehow you always got in the game - probably because you could make contact with the ball with the bat, whereas I could only hit the ball with my body. Glad to see that you are doing wo well! I'm looking forward to seeing you this summer!
My sister Melissa said that you are in her ward. What a small world.
You have a beautiful family!
I always remember you as being a very kind and gentle person.
I look forward to seeing you again.
Your family looks beautiful. It sounds like you are doing well. Thanks for your support and I hope you have a great time at the reunion.

I am impressed more with your ability to keep in touch with people from our class than I am with your other successes (although 5 kids is also impressive). I am aweful at keeping in touch. It will be good to see you again in Provo. I am glad we got a chance to hang out a bit at Snow (you will have to refresh me on the 3 on 3 tourney though).

Sorry about not writing to you earlier, I was going to and things kept coming up, and then the reunion had things I had to do to be ready. I know these are poor excuses, but they work.
It was great to see you and your family at the reunion. You have a great family.
I really hope we do a 25 year reunion. It would be fun to see everyone again.
Keep in touch.
Hey what ever happened to Scott. He better have a really good excuse why he did not come. If you ever see him tell him I was disappointed he did not show.
Well hope to see you again soon.
Take care,
