Where Are They Now? — John Wright

Well first of all I will start off by saying I am not dead. I did have a pretty major heart attack in 2001 but I am alive and well and my heart is ticking pretty good.

My life since graduation has been a roller coaster ride to say the least. I served a mission in the Sevilla, Spain mission. Came home and attended U.V.S.C. while playing baseball there. A year later I married a Provo High alum (class of 93). Along the way I worked for Coca-Cola and Smith's Food and Drug. We had three awesome kids, two boys, Cy (11), Maddux (9) and a girl, Quincey (6).

In 96 I started an Appraisal company and did really well with it. The market was very good and we grew as a company. Three years later, through many bad decisions and choices, I found myself divorced and my appraisal company bankrupt. I battled demons for about two years, this was the hardest time in my life, looking back on it now I am glad I went through what I did, at the time it was scary and hard, but I am a way better person now because of what I went through.

I was a single father for about three years. During that time I was a journeyman brick mason. I enjoyed the work and it kept me busy. When I wasn't working I was either at one of my boys games or at a dance recital for my daughter. One of the funnest vacations in my life was when just myself and my three kids went to Disneyland together. It was a complete blast and a time I will cherish forever.

Two years ago I met my best friend and the love of my life. Tracy is from California and works for the Provo school district. Because of her I am a better husband and father. She is truly a god-send.

I now work for The Fence Specialist in Lindon. I am a sales rep. there and a truly love my job. We sell and install all kinds of fences, decks, pergolas, gazebos etc.
Tracy and I purchased a new home in February in south/west Provo. I love the new house and especially love the life we have together.

Most of my free time I spend with my awesome kids. Both my boys are actually very good athletes and they love to play ball. A normal Saturday consists of mostly baseball and more baseball! Also Cy and Maddux can be seen in the dug-out of most BYU home games working as bat boys. They also have been known to sit under the baskets and wipe up sweat from the BYU basketball players too. I am so proud of them and love watching them do what they love doing. Quincey is a little dancing machine. On the weekends my kids stay at my home Quincey gets frustrated with her old man cause I just cant dance like she is trying to teach me. She also just started her first year of t-ball where her biggest concern is if her shirt matches her pants! She is an absolute sweet heart and full of spunk.

Well, I have enjoyed reading about all of you and look forward to seeing you. I was such a jerk at times in high school and pray daily my kids won't be a chip off the old block!

John--glad you are OK. How scary that must have been to have a heart attack at such a young age. Wait, who am I kidding, we're not young any more! You look great, and happy.

Ok, only you would know about kick the can and me-was that you who commented on my blog?! You look great, I'm glad to hear your health is better. My parents said they ran into you recently and had a good chat. They keep me updated on you! It will be great to see/talk to you at the reunion. Jill

John,

I am so impressed that you can say all of that for us to read. It must have been terrifying and heartbreaking. I'm proud of what you are accomplishing now in your life, and realizing what is so important. Way to go John. I hope I get to see you and your great family in June. Keep up the great work.

Johnny, great bio! It's nice to see honesty and transparency when talking about life, especially in a reunion situation wherein people often put the best foot forward. It's very refreshing really.

JW - Dang you have some cute kids. I agree that you were a jerk in High School. If you hadn't run around with guys like Craig Anderson and Jim Kendall you would have been nicer. :) See you in June. -DK

John- I agree with Dan, your kids are seriously cute. I'm so glad you shared your experiences. You sound like you are doing so well now.

Our family has been to Disney World two times, and like you, it also was the BEST time ever. We're already planning our next trip. You can see how much your kids love you in your pictures and what a great dad you are.

Hey, how is Denise (I'm pretty sure she's your cousin) doing?

Take care, Vicki Thompson (O'Brien)

Hey John - I am proud of you for what you have done with your life. I have had many life experiences that have led me to be able to relate. I think the greatest thing is that you look like you've pulled it all back together. One day at a time, that's all you can do. See you at the reunion.

Johnny boy- Man its been a few years since I saw you last. I think it was at a softball game over in S.F. Your kids are cute, and I'm glad you have made a turn for the better. Its tough to acknowledge something of this in ones life, when you can try to sweep it under a rug. Hang in there, the next 20 will be a lot more exciting for you. Hope your mom and dad are doing fine- say Hi for me, and look forward to seeing you in June. I also found a picture of us and a few other from the west end in a YBA hoops!!!! Its so funny to see us it has to be 30 yrs old. Your dad was our coach- Anyhow... take care. Rod Johnson
