Where Are They Now? — Chad Thornburgh

Twenty years, Hmmm... Seems like it was just yesterday I was hanging with friends, listening to punk rock music, drinking beers, and skating empty pools. Oh wait... that was last Sunday!! Yea, I still skate, not as much as back then, but these old bones can still roll around an empty pool.

What have I done? Well, after school I figured why settle down early when there is life to live! So many girls to meet, and so little time, what's a standard issue goofy lookin' white boy to do? So I got a job at Bushmann Press for a couple of years and then bailed to Ogden. Why Ogden, that I'm still trying to figure out. Anyway, I moved there with friends from school that were attending Weber State, and wasted time with jobs, skating, and too many parties to remember!!Yea, it's a good thing I don't remember most of them, I was in enough trouble with the ones I do remember! I eventually ended up with a company called Arnco West in North Salt Lake. It was a company making conduit for underground placement of cables (fiber-optic, electrical, phone, etc. you get the pic.) Wasted 13 years there! Kidding, it wasn't that bad to start, but Thank God I'm out of there now! So I spent from 92' to 99' in O-town, then got smart and moved to Salt Lake.

Salt Lake was a good move, and I got into autocross racing with my VW GTI. I raced locally for a couple of years, doing O.K. in that, but found out the hard way that it is a rich mans sport, and I wasn't making a 6 figure income, so cars are now just a side hobbie for me.

So one day I get a phone call, and the past catches up with you. It was Melissa Wilson from High School! She had been at James Arvidson's weddding and had run onto my little brother Jeff. She asked if I was still around, and I was, so she called and we started going out again (We dated for a year in school), and dated for a few years. So in 04' we thought why not, and ended up in Vegas at the top of the Stratosphere Tower, getting married. Yea, we had fun with it as you can see from the photos. And yes, that is Bill Duke and his wife Angie, as Best Man and Maid of Honor.

Well, the racing bug bit again, and I started Kart racing!! That lasted a year until, again, I realized I wasn't making 6 figures, and racing isn't exactly inexpensive, so that went by the wayside too.

In 06' we ended up with little Jetta Angie!! Spitfire redhead!!! Yes, the mother's curse works, and you end up with kids who behave just as you did, so I have my hands full! Jetta want's to be just like her older sister Jubilee, my 10 yr. old stepdaughter, so I have two girls to raise, both girlie-girls, who like Dance, and to pose whenever a camera is within eyeshot!! (again, see photos). At least I can get them to go rock climbing with me, and they like it very much. They are both spider monkeys.

We are now in Murray, just a stones throw from the old 49th Street Gallaria. Melissa works as a CMA (a.k.a. Certified Medical Assistant) for a local allergy doctor, and I now work for Tesoro Petroleum Corp, at the refinery in Salt Lake. Yea, it's Big Oil, but I don't get any gas discounts!! I pay $3.25 a gallon, just like everyone else out there, so don't ask if you can borrow my company card.

So that's 20 years! Not much huh? Still just a standard issue white boy. Just now with a family that I wouldn't trade for anything, a cyco beagle named Snoopy, a mutt named Fred, still listening to punk rock, and Skating!!! (Also rock climbing! Now that I am old it is a little safer than skating, at least when you fall you are attached to a rope.)

Well, if anyone wants to drop a line to to say Hey! I am at dubsgti@yahoo.com and Melissa is at missa7t@yahoo.com.

Late !!!

Chad, I'll never forget all those lunches at Hi-Spot and getting a burger and drink, and Anthony would always play a game of TRON. Skate OR DIE!

Dave, Hi-Spot burger and a Coke were the best lunches ever!!! Now it's gone, maybe I'll start a business and bring Hi-Spot back!! I'll get a vintage TRON game to go in the corner, and even hire that hot brunette waitress that was always there when we'd go!

Blue Zoot Suit. Priceless. I don't have the flava to pull that off, but you certainly do. What I remember most about you is that you had big brass ones. I saw you do some stunts that left me drop-jawed. From the looks of the pics, looks like you still got 'em.

Chad, I did not know my wedding reception was where you and Melissa got back in touch. That is great! You both seem very happy together the few times we have ran into each other.

Look forward to seeing you at the reunion. Before I saw this post I e-mailed Melissa asking if you were both showing up.

It is still a little strange thinking I will be going to a reunion much less a 20 year reunion.

Chad, i'll always remember you from little league baseball. One of the only guys who could sport a batting glove from his back pocket that was in continually dirt free :)

Yea, I never was a very good ball player. That's probably why I took up skating. But I did have fun trying.
