Weekly Poll #5 — March 31, 2008

There was always lots of sports going on: soccer, volleyball, basketball, football, etc.

What sports memory stands out the most from your days in high school?

What was the best game you attended? What was the worst? What things do you remember that happened on the sidelines or in the bleachers?

I have always loved football. I remember sitting in the stands in snow watching the games. The best game I attended was when we went to state against Timpview and got to go to the U of U, unfortunately we lost that football game. I guess that could also be the worst because we lost to them but I was proud to have gotten that far along.

I remember when we played Timpview in football and a few nameless individuals torched a "PHS" on the 50 yard line the night before the game. Unfortunately they got the "P" backwards and for the next year or so, we were known as "qHS". The Thunderbirds had a good time with that.
I will also always remember the bouncy ball incident with Timpview on the basketball court. I have to give them credit for an excellent plan there.

I remember the bouncy ball incident too! I was sooo offended and really wished that I would have thought of it first!

But my favorite sports memory was that our varsity soccer team won state a day or so after graduation! They played an awesome game!

Beating Timpview our Jr year in football a couple of days before Cory Pinegar's accident. Btw, the next year when we had the "9hs" incident on the timpview field we ended up beating TV by 9 so it was prophetic.

Yes, who can forget J. P.s' backwards P incident, the "Bouncy Balls" or the Toilet paper from the other Timp game. But enough about those "on the Hill Losers".
You want the sport story of the Year, ask somebody who played on the 1988 3A Utah State Highschool Championship Soccer Team. They made Cinderella look like a Maid.

I have several sports moments I will never forget. but I think the most memorable for me has to be everytime we walked onto the field as a team before every football game. The unity and the one minded goal was a feeling I will never forget. All of us thinking the same thing. That to me was, well, awesome!

I can remember one sporting event that to this day makes me laugh out loud when I think about it... It was a football game at home, the crowd was up cheering for the team to come out onto the field. I saw Wally Day run like a crazy man to bust through the sign the cheerleaders were holding, the only thing was, that Wally tripped himself on the curb of the track and fell down only to trampled by the football team. Man was that funny! It brings tears to my eyes everytime I think of it!
