Weekly Poll #4 — March 24, 2008

This is a two part poll about school dances.

Part I:

Part II:

In high school you couldn't simply call someone up and ask them to a dance. It was always an elaborate production.

What was the most memorable way you asked someone to a dance or were asked to a dance? (Leave a comment below.)

I came up with the idea to fake a car accident near the home of the girl and when she came out her potential date would be lying there and moan something about "I would die to go to the dance with you" It worked splendidly as Scott Miller asked Heather Roskelly. However #2 was Andy Horton asking Lisa Peatross. We used my dad's big truck and added some food coloring and karo Syrup, as well as Andy slid behind the wheels of the truck instead of in front of the vehicle giving the impression I had run OVER him. Lisa went hysterical (gross understatement)and the neighbors almost called the ambulance. needless to say I asked using a much more benign method. probably balloons or something lame.

How about when Ben Peay asked Karen Simons out for me for Jr. Prom, without my knowledge. I was scared that her cowboy boyfriend who was 4 yrs older than me would beat me up! Then to find out she was prom queen, and having to dance out there on the floor all alone!!!!!!!!!!! It turned out okay- and Mic Cox didn't beat me up. He actually 'thanked' me for taking her to her Prom dance!!

I remember when Brian Hoffmeier had a cop come to my house and ask for me. I had a bunch of friends over and I couldn't figure out what I had done wrong. I started shaking. Then he summoned me to prom with Brian. I was almost in tears from being nervous and then laughing so hard but managed to say yes.

I always feared when the dances came around. I was always afraid some girl would ask me to go to one.

I remember one time for a girl's choice dance a group of girls got together to ask out a group of us guys. We found out ahead of time that the girls were going to show up at our houses early in the morning and were going to "kidnap" us in our pajamas and take us to breakfast. So, we all woke up extra early, were showered, dressed with teeth brushed for the event. It was a good thing, too, because I don't think they realized that most guys really don't sleep in pajamas and would have caught a lot of us in our boxers...or less.
