Amy Hughes (Russell)

Hello Fellow Bulldogs!

Since I'm hoping that all of you will take the time to let us know where and (more importantly) how you are, I thought that I would get us started.

I've been trying to figure out a way to make my life sound noteworthy or intriguing, rather than simply chaotic. But, I will say that I’m content with my chaos.

After High School, I made the then controversial decision to attend the University of Utah. And I’m just going to be blunt and say it—I’ve become a Ute fan! (I think it’s best to be open about this now and let you get used to the idea before you have to face me in June.) During my junior year at the U, BYU President, Cecil Samuelson’s son (a fellow Ute) introduced me to his friend, Brad Russell. We were married eight months later.

Brad and I had the typical early years of marriage while we both finished our undergraduate and graduate degrees, and tried to pay for life at the same time. I completed a Master’s Degree in Social Work at the U and, in the interested of full disclosure, I should add that my husband did his graduate work at BYU.

Along the way we had four great kids—Michael (12), David (10), Katie (7) and Sam (4). Each one has brought our family unique challenges and unique joy. We live in the Sugarhouse area of Salt Lake City. Brad works as a Strategic Planner for Intermountain Healthcare, and I work about ten hours a week as a Grant Writer for the YWCA of Salt Lake City. So, between our jobs, our kids, PTA, sports, lessons, scouts, church, and now this reunion, our life is chaotic—on good days it’s controlled chaos. (Today was just chaos—I just spent 40 minutes searching for an Optimus Prime Potato Head that my four-year-old snuggles with at night.) On the up side, all this chaos helps me forget that I’m closing in on 40 and haven’t even begun to plan my mid-life crisis.

I would love to hear how much more exciting your life is than mine! PLEASE take the time to share your story with us!

And come to the reunion--Our plan is to make it fun and only minimally awkward! Which brings me to my last point--volunteer to help! Why, you ask? Would you really want to come to a reunion solely planned by the person who just wrote this post?

I love your family picture. How fun. You haven't changed a bit! Thanks for your wonderfully nice comments about my pictures. I hope to make it as well.

Your family photo is great! Looks like the number '4' is a strong number so far for kids. I love Warrenton, it probably wasn't much back then, but it is growing fast. They kinda joined up with O'fallon to have a larger city. We love to go there for the outlet stores! Take care and see you in June.

You have a wonderful looking family. Just keep the boys away from my girls! :) I appreciate you getting all this reunion stuff together. For some of us it gives us something to look forward to. You look just the same as I remember you in high school. How do you do that? I'm excited to see everyone in June. Thanks for all you do.

When I painted the Mona Lisa, I had this renaissance vision of Amy Hughes Russell. It didn't turn out quite the way I planned, but you get the idea. Simply Beautiful.

Amy,
It has been fun to reconnect with you. I am commenting late in the reunion season, so I can say how much I have enjoyed our association. Nice to know that people you once knew and thought were so nice and so nice still. And you are not only nice, but thoughtful, smart, funny, beautiful, thrifty, kind, brave, true. I could go on you know.

How is it that you haven't aged at all? Bring your secret to the reunion. Your life sounds awesome and happy. You deserve that.

Amazing, Awesome Amy,
Thanks for the countless hours of work, sacrifice, and stress you took upon yourself in behalf of the class of '88. You did a fantastic job. The reunion was incredible! Hope to see you again soon. nursenoel@msn.com

Amy I just want to thank you for everything you've done to keep me involved in the reunion. I really do appreciate you. I have to admit that some of the comments left for me after the reunion leave me embarrassed. I don't think I've done anything spectacular or out of the ordinary by leaving comments to my classmates. I just told my daughter I'm kind of glad I wasn't there because I would have bawled my eyes out (I'm a crying wuss). Thank you again for all of your efforts and I'm game for anything y'all need help with for the next reunion (I know it's a bit early and y'all are way to exhausted to even begin to think of the next one.) I hope you will keep in touch until the next reunion though.
